In this video I show you how I painted The Rotfiend from The Witcher: Old World Board Game.

Steps

  1. 1 Base-coat all the skin with Ungor Flesh, covering the entire figure except the base.
  2. 2 Pick out all the places where the skin has torn away to reveal muscle underneath with Dark Fleshtone.
  3. 3 Thin Carroburg Crimson and apply it over all the skin for subtle bruising and redness, without tinting the skin too heavily.
  4. 4 Once dry, highlight or pick out the striations on the larger muscles with Bloody Red, leaving the surrounding Dark Fleshtone visible and keeping the highlight toward the middle.
  5. 5 Pick out the teeth with Brown Sand, and use the same color to paint the ground on the base.
  6. 6 Mix Offwhite into the Brown Sand and apply it over the teeth for a highlight, then add more Offwhite for a second, brighter pass.
  7. 7 Lighten Ungor Flesh with Offwhite and highlight the skin as you would on any humanoid miniature — upturned surfaces, the lower edges of the large cuts in the skin, the folds around the face, and the large torus-like lumps on the back of the head — then lighten it further with more Offwhite for a second highlight over the same areas.
  8. 8 Base-coat the rocks on the base with Cold Grey.
  9. 9 Base-coat the bones with Screaming Skull.
  10. 10 Base-coat the leaves scattered on the ground with Deathworld Forest.
  11. 11 Base-coat the wooden branches lying on the base with Mournfang Brown.
  12. 12 Dry-brush Screaming Skull carefully over the entire base to pick out the ground texture and the edges of the rocks, avoiding the finished figure.
  13. 13 Apply Agrax Earthshade selectively into parts of the base — all the bones, the wood, and a few puddled areas — to darken them.
  14. 14 Once dry, apply Athonian Camoshade around the places with leaves, and in a few other spots to suggest moss.
  15. 15 Apply Druchii Violet Shade into all the little folds in the skin to deepen the shadows and reinforce the bruised look.
  16. 16 Shade the entire base with Nuln Oil to bring it all together.
  17. 17 Paint the rim of the base with Abaddon Black.
