Painting THE BREWESS from The Witcher: Old World
In this video I show you how I painted The Brewess from The Witcher: Old World Board Game.
Steps
- 1 Base-coat all of her skin with Bugman's Glow.
- 2 Base-coat the dress, upper garment, and head bag with Dryad Bark, avoiding the apron and patches.
- 3 Paint the wicker mesh in front of her face and all of the ropes over the miniature with Golden Brown.
- 4 Base-coat the apron and its patches with Warm Grey.
- 5 Base-coat the wooden spoons on her belt with Zandri Dust.
- 6 Base-coat the leather sacks on each hip with English Uniform.
- 7 Base-coat the ladle, the lock and chain, and the collar around her neck with Abaddon Black for a cast-iron look, to be finished later with non-metallic metal.
- 8 Base-coat the sides and any exposed top of the base with Abaddon Black, and paint the claws Abaddon Black as well.
- 9 Paint the rabbit carcass on the base with Silver Grey, then shade it with Ashen Stone.
- 10 Highlight all the flesh in stages, mixing Miskatonic Grey into Bugman's Glow and building up over several layers on the upper skin and folds, keeping the undersides of the arms and hands dark and staying out of the recesses between fingers.
- 11 Highlight the clothing by mixing Tallarn Sand into Dryad Bark, hitting upturned folds, the dress ridges, the rear of the garment, and the head bag; build the highlight up over more layers as it lightens.
- 12 Add more Tallarn Sand to the mix and pick out short horizontal hash marks over the highlighted fabric to suggest stitching, building the texture up over several passes without brightening it further.
- 13 Once dry, wash all of the clothing and ropes with Agrax Earthshade.
- 14 Thin Druchii Violet Shade with water and apply it to the downward-facing skin and fat folds, stippling some areas to suggest bruising.
- 15 Use black ink to shade the wicker mesh around her face and reinforce the shadows underneath the clothing folds for texture and grime.
- 16 Thin Dark Fleshtone into a glaze and stipple it onto the apron for dried blood and dirt, then apply it sparingly elsewhere on the miniature, including a little on the skin for extra bruising.
- 17 Highlight the metal lock, chain, and collar by mixing Silver Grey into Abaddon Black over the raised surfaces, then apply a final, smaller highlight of nearly pure Silver Grey for glints of light.
