Painting HeroQuest: Episode 7 - The Rogue Heir of Elethorn
In this video I show you how I painted the male and female Rogue characters from the “Rogue Heir of Elethorn” expansion to the 2021 version of HeroQuest.
Steps
- 1 Base coat the female rogue's skin with Brown Rose and the male rogue's skin with Cadian Fleshtone.
- 2 Base coat the upper (green) part of the pants with Algae Green speed paint, and the rest of the pants with Noble Skin speed paint.
- 3 Base coat the boots, belts, straps, and bracers with Dryad Bark, and the fur around the neck with Ashen Stone speed paint.
- 4 Base coat the shirt with Iraqi Sand for a warmer white, and the overcoat with Steel Legion Drab.
- 5 Base coat the hilts and crossguards of the knives and daggers with Glorious Gold, the rest of the metal with Leadbelcher, and the shirt/coat trim with Khaki; paint the lapels with Baneblade Brown.
- 6 Undercoat the raised areas of the hair with pure white, then wash the whole head with Seraphim Sepia and paint the eye whites with Ivory.
- 7 Base coat the boot trim with Khaki, then highlight the shirt by layering Ivory into the Iraqi Sand base, and dot in the eye pupils with a Micron pen.
- 8 Highlight all the leather by layering Baneblade Brown into the Dryad Bark, and highlight the shirt/coat trim by mixing Ivory into the Khaki, focusing on upward-facing edges.
- 9 Paint the boot emblem and trim, touch up the bracer stitching with Iraqi Sand, then highlight the overcoat by layering Karak Stone into the Steel Legion Drab over several passes.
- 10 Highlight the lapels with a Baneblade Brown and Ivory mix, overbrush the neck fur with Ulthuan Grey, and add an Ivory highlight to the crown of the hair.
- 11 Use Agrax Earthshade to dark-line between material transitions and shade the leather, then paint the exposed weapon handles with Grim Black speed paint.
- 12 Reapply Ivory to the raised hair areas, then apply three layers of Ancient Honey glaze over the hair for a warm highlight, interspersed with more Ivory highlighting.
- 13 Glaze thinned Payne's Grey ink onto one side of each blade for a dark transition, then glaze a Runefang Steel and Leadbelcher mix onto the opposite side for the light transition, and edge-highlight the blades and center seams with pure Runefang Steel.
- 14 Wash all the skin on both miniatures with Reikland Fleshshade, then paint the base rim with Hull Red.
- 15 Highlight the female rogue's skin by reapplying Brown Rose, then building up layers of Flayed One Flesh mixed in on the fingers, ears, nose, cheekbones, forehead, and chin; add thin Hull Red lines around the eyes and lips, and thin German Camo Black Brown eyebrows.
- 16 Highlight the male rogue's skin the same way, mixing Kislev Flesh into the Cadian Fleshtone base instead, skipping the Hull Red lip lines.
- 17 Highlight the gold areas on the weapons and outfit with Vallejo Gold, then thin German Camo Black Brown to an ink and dark-line between transitions across both miniatures for extra pop.
