Painting HeroQuest: Episode 20 - Dread Warriors
In this video I show you step-by-step how to paint both sculpts of The Dread Warrior (Chaos Warrior) miniatures from the Mythic Tier of the 2021 version of HeroQuest by Avalon Hill.
Steps
- 1 Prime both Dread Warrior sculpts with Grey Seer.
- 2 Dry-brush Titanium White over the whole miniature with a big makeup brush to pre-highlight the edges of the armor and cloak.
- 3 Base coat the cloak with Slaughter Red.
- 4 Darken Vallejo Metal Color Silver with a touch of black and base coat all the metal armor, everything except the cloak.
- 5 Dry-brush all the armor with Necron Compound.
- 6 Reset the red fabric bits on the front of the armor with grey primer, then base coat them with Slaughter Red along with the eyes on the chest.
- 7 Thin Abaddon Black with water and apply it to the darker recesses: the mouth on the shield, the mouth in the armor's midsection, and the openings on the helmet.
- 8 Thin Payne's Grey ink with a Vallejo glaze medium and apply it over the rest of the armor for a darkish blue tinge.
- 9 Paint the miniature base with Mechanicus Standard Grey, then go back and paint the shield's eyes with Slaughter Red as well.
- 10 Thin down Hull Red into a glaze and dab it around the shield's mouth and other spots for a rusty, bloody effect.
- 11 Dot in the warrior's eyes with a couple of layers of Fluorescent Red, letting each layer dry before reapplying.
- 12 Add Blood For The Blood God around the shield's mouth for a final blood effect, varying how far it drips or spreads on each miniature.
