Painting HeroQuest: Episode 15 - Path of the Wandering Monk (Female)
In this video I show you step-by-step how to paint the Female Monk from the “Path of the Wandering Monk” expansion to the 2021 version of HeroQuest by Avalon Hill.
Steps
- 1 Base-coat all the skin with Resurrection Flesh.
- 2 Base-coat the pants with Light Green Grey and the lighter parts of the robe with Surfer Orc Flesh, using a couple of coats for coverage.
- 3 Base-coat the hair and staff with Black Grey, then the rest of the cloak and her boots with Dark Sea Blue.
- 4 Use Black Grey as an undercoat on the metal pouch at her hip, then pick out the wraps on her boots with Light Green Grey.
- 5 Paint the belt with Brown Rose.
- 6 Wash all the green areas, pants and robe, with Biel-Tan Green to build shadow in the recesses.
- 7 Highlight the green areas, including the knees and boot wraps, with Light Green Grey, leaving Biel-Tan Green showing in the deepest shadows.
- 8 Build up highlights on the cloak: start with pure Surfer Orc Flesh on the tops of the folds, then progressively lighten with mixes of Surfer Orc Flesh and Light Green Grey.
- 9 Highlight the darker parts of the cloak by mixing Surfer Orc Flesh with Dark Sea Blue, applying thin layers and lightening further with more Surfer Orc Flesh.
- 10 Highlight the belt with a mix of Brown Rose and AK Interactive Offwhite, building up to a bright highlight, then shade the recesses with Carroburg Crimson.
- 11 Paint the eyes: whites with Offwhite, pupils and an outline with Black Grey, then clean up the edges with Resurrection Flesh.
- 12 Highlight the skin by mixing Offwhite into Resurrection Flesh, focusing on the upper surfaces and fingers, then deepen the shadows between the fingers and darken the lips with Reikland Fleshshade.
- 13 Highlight the hair with short strokes using a Black Grey and Offwhite mix, building up brightness, then knock the highlights back with thinned Decay Black worked into the recesses.
- 14 Highlight the staff with a lighter grey, base-coat the staff ends with Tinny Tin and dry-brush them with Retributor Armour, and base-coat the hip pouch with Leadbelcher before highlighting it with Silver.
- 15 Paint the display base with Hull Red.
- 16 Optional: add fine Nuln Oil lines between materials and in the deepest recesses to boost shadow and contrast.
