Painting HeroQuest: Episode 14 - The Zombies
In this video I show you step-by-step how to paint the Zombies from the 2021 version of HeroQuest (and the Mythic Tier) by Avalon Hill.
Steps
- 1 Base-coat exposed skin, varying the color per zombie: Bony Matter on most, Battleship Grey and Brownish Decay (a darker tone) on a few each, and Ghoul Green on a couple as a nod to the colorized Night of the Living Dead.
- 2 Base-coat pants with Burnt Moss on some zombies and Dusk Red on others.
- 3 Base-coat the female zombies' dresses: Grim Black on one, Peachy Flesh on the other.
- 4 Wash the Battleship Grey and Ghoul Green skin with Coelia Greenshade to deepen the shadows.
- 5 Dry-brush the lighter skin tones with Rakarth Flesh.
- 6 Base-coat all the hair with Skavenblight Dinge.
- 7 Shade the orange dress with Fuegan Orange, then dry-brush the darker pants and clothing with Deathworld Forest and the red pants with Bugman's Glow.
- 8 Paint the male zombies' single shoe with Satchel Brown.
- 9 Block in the shields and the female zombies' leather belts with Titanium White to prep for the next layer.
- 10 Highlight the hair with two progressively lighter, smaller layers of Skavenblight Dinge mixed with white, hitting the raised crown areas.
- 11 Paint the wooden shield parts and the female zombies' leather belts with Hardened Leather.
- 12 Fill in the eye whites with Hellbound Flesh, then paint the tongues and teeth with Titanium White.
- 13 Base-coat all the metal — swords, shield fittings, and the females' knives — with a 50/50 mix of Broadsword Silver and Payne's Grey ink.
- 14 Paint the male zombies' open mouths with Slaughter Red.
- 15 Paint the bases with Rakarth Flesh.
- 16 Wash the hair, and the teeth and mouths, with Nuln Oil to add contrast and grime.
- 17 Highlight the metal edges with Citadel Ironbreaker.
- 18 Mix Murder Scene and Slaughter Red with speed paint medium and use it to add blood, cuts, and bruises across the skin and clothing.
