Steps

  1. 1 Dry-brush all the bone areas with Stonewall Grey, then a second, lighter dry brush mixing in Bone White on the upper surfaces.
  2. 2 Base-coat the cloak and leather straps with Beasty Brown.
  3. 3 Base-coat the wrap on the left arm with Cadmium Skin.
  4. 4 Mix Stonewall Grey with Black for a dark grey base coat on the pants.
  5. 5 Base-coat the hanging skulls, boot fur, and the piece around the neck with Bone White.
  6. 6 Base-coat the leather pouches with pure Black.
  7. 7 Base-coat all the armored areas — boots, arm armor, and shoulder — with Chainmail Silver.
  8. 8 Base-coat the magic effect coming off the staff with a warm off-white mix of Sun Yellow and White, then dot pure White into the eye sockets, paint the base runes White, and brighten the magic effect where it meets the staff.
  9. 9 Highlight the head, neck vertebrae, fingers, and ribs with Stonewall Grey lightened with White.
  10. 10 Wash the dark grey and brown areas with Black Wash, then use a thinned mix of Black Wash and Beasty Brown over all the bone-white areas.
  11. 11 Dry-brush Chainmail Silver over all the metal areas and the staff, then dry-brush Black over the base runes and paint in the rest of the base with Black.
  12. 12 Highlight the ridges of the pants' folds with a Stonewall Grey and Dead White mix.
  13. 13 Highlight the brown areas by reestablishing pure Beasty Brown on the ridges, then lightening it further with Sun Yellow; highlight the black leather pouches and belt with Black lightened by White; and dry-brush more Bone White onto the skulls, fur, and neck bones.
  14. 14 Build a glowing OSL effect: fill the eyes and base of the staff's magic effect with a thin glaze of Magic Blue and Sun Yellow, darkening it toward the tip with added Flesh Wash, and pick out sharp green reflections on the metal armor and belt buckle with Goblin Green mixed into Chainmail Silver.
  15. 15 Finish the magic effect's gradient by mixing Black into the glaze for the darkest point at the very top.
