Steps

  1. 1 Base-coat all the exposed skin (face, chest, shoulders, hands, upper legs) with Cadmium Skin, and use it as an undercoat on the hair.
  2. 2 Base-coat the corset with Beasty Brown.
  3. 3 Mix a purplish-blue for the dress from Beasty Brown, Magic Blue, Bloody Red, and Warlord Purple; apply it over the entire dress.
  4. 4 Base-coat the hair with a mix of brown, red, and a touch of Cadmium Skin for a reddish-brown tone.
  5. 5 Mix Bone White and Beasty Brown for the face of the lute, and a dark brown-and-black mix for the back of the lute's body and neck.
  6. 6 Mix Stonewall Grey and black; use it for the fabric hanging from her belt and, for now, the entire leg wraps.
  7. 7 Paint the dress embellishments — her arm wraps, the stripe along the back hem, and the flared dress front — in pure Bloody Red.
  8. 8 Base-coat the rock she's standing on with Stonewall Grey, and the white streak in her hair with a darkened Stonewall Grey and black mix.
  9. 9 Wash the skin and hair with Flesh Wash, then wash everything black or grey — the rock, the hanging fabric, and the boots — with Black Wash.
  10. 10 Mix a custom wash of Black Wash, a drop of Warlord Purple, and water; apply it over all the blue areas of the dress.
  11. 11 Pick out the areas of exposed skin on her legs with Cadmium Skin where the wraps don't cover them, reapply Flesh Wash there, and cover the brown leather bits, the lute's sound holes, and the neck-to-body seam with Black Wash.
  12. 12 Finish the base as in previous videos — fill the recesses with white and dry-brush the rock — then pick out anything metal, including the belt, jewelry, tuning pegs, and lute fittings, with Chainmail Silver.
  13. 13 Highlight the grey wraps and hanging fabric with progressively lighter mixes of Stonewall Grey, covering a smaller area with each pass.
  14. 14 Highlight the dress with a Magic Blue and Warlord Purple mix on the upturned folds, lightening with Dead White for higher passes and the shoulder frill, then glaze the whole dress with thinned blue to blend the layers together.
  15. 15 Highlight the bracers and corset with Beasty Brown boosted with Sun Yellow, highlight the red dress trim with Sun Yellow and then a Sun Yellow/Dead White mix for a salmon tone, and highlight the lute's front with Bone White and a Bone White/Beasty Brown/Sun Yellow mix.
  16. 16 Build up the hair highlights starting with pure Bloody Red, then progressively adding Sun Yellow and white, following the sculpt more as it brightens, then work brown and a touch of black back into the shadowed and darkest areas for volume.
  17. 17 Highlight the white hair streak with Stonewall Grey lightened heavily with Dead White, darken the shadows with black, and finish with a Black Wash over that area.
  18. 18 Paint her closed eyes with a Warlord Purple and black mix filling the sockets, then highlight the skin with Cadmium Skin plus a touch of purple — cleaning up the eye shape and hitting the forehead, cheekbones, nose, chin, and hands — mix a dark reddish-brown for the finger recesses, and finish with a white-boosted highlight across all the skin.
  19. 19 Boost the shadows across the whole miniature with thinned Black Wash, focusing on the leather, metal, and the deepest recesses of the dress, then finish the base by painting the top pure black and dry-brushing white over the recessed area to leave the deepest parts white. Optionally mix skin tone, red, and purple for the lips.
