How to Paint IFAN - Divinity Original Sin: The Board Game
In this video I show you how to paint Ifan from Divinity Original Sin: The Board Game, using only the Vallejo Game Color paints that were included with the Kickstarter paint set.
Steps
- 1 Mix Beasty Brown into Cadmium Skin to slightly darken the tone, then base-coat all the skin — the face above the beard, hands, and elbows — with a couple of coats.
- 2 Mix black and Beasty Brown roughly 50/50 for a near-black brown shadow color; base-coat the cape, boots, and belt with it.
- 3 Base-coat the neck fur and the rock base with Stonewall Grey.
- 4 Base-coat the pants, undershirt, and hair with pure black.
- 5 Mix black and brown roughly 1:2 for the leather armor color; use it on the leather armor panels and the wrist bracers.
- 6 Paint all the metal — the crossbow, shoulder armor plates, and the armored boot plates — with Chainmail Silver.
- 7 Dry-brush the neck fur and the rock with Dead White to bring out the texture.
- 8 Wash all the skin with Flesh Wash, then wash everything except the skin and cape — the leather, metal, and fur — with Black Wash.
- 9 Build up highlights on the cape, belt, and leather boot areas by layering progressively lighter and thinner versions of the black-brown mix, adding more brown and then Stonewall Grey, each pass covering less area.
- 10 Highlight the leather armor panels and bracers with thinned pure brown inside each armor square, brightening the edges and the areas underneath the plate armor.
- 11 Highlight the pants and undershirt with a near-black mix of Stonewall Grey and black, following the sculpted stripe texture.
- 12 Dry-brush a highlight over all the metal armor parts, then optionally redraw some of the panel-separation lines with Black Wash to boost the shadow.
- 13 Paint the eyes: ivory whites from white mixed with a little Sun Yellow, black pupils, then trace the outer shape with Beasty Brown to sink the eyes in and clean up the pupils.
- 14 Fill the recesses of the base's runes with pure white.
- 15 Build up three passes of skin highlight — the Beasty Brown/Cadmium Skin mix, a lighter version of it, then pure Cadmium Skin — focusing on the forehead, cheekbones, nose, and fingers.
- 16 Paint the hair with short, layered strokes of a black mixed with Magic Blue, progressively adding white over several passes to build volume and highlights, then wash the whole head with Black Wash to bring the darkness back.
- 17 Paint the top of the base black, then heavily dry-brush black over the white runes so it only catches the raised edges, and paint the base rim black.
- 18 Optional: selectively add Black Wash into deep shadow areas like the hair and where the hands meet the crossbow, highlight the forgotten fur tufts on the boots and sleeves with Stonewall Grey, and draw in eyebrows with pure black.
- 19 Finish with a coat of spray varnish to protect the paint job.
