2 Simple Ways to Fix Bent or Warped Miniatures
tutorial
In this video I show you two ways you can use to straighten out plastic miniatures that are bent or warped.
Steps
- 1 Note that both fixes rely on heating the plastic, so they only work on plastic miniatures — not metal or resin.
- 2 Method 1, the hot water method: prepare a cup of near-boiling water (heated a couple minutes in the microwave) and a cup of cold water.
- 3 Dunk the bent part — like a HeroQuest abomination's weapon — in the hot water for 10 to 20 seconds to soften the plastic.
- 4 Pull the piece out and bend it by hand into the correct shape while the plastic is still warm and pliable.
- 5 Dunk it in the cold water to harden the plastic and lock the new, straightened shape in place.
- 6 Repeat the hot-and-cold water process on other bent weapons, like the gargoyle's axe and the dread warrior's mace — sometimes just reheating the plastic lets it spring back into its intended position on its own.
- 7 Method 2, the hair dryer method: heat the bent plastic (like an orc's crooked sword) with a standard hair dryer instead of dunking it in hot water, then bend it straight by hand.
- 8 Dunk the heated piece straight into the cold water to harden it immediately, instead of waiting for it to cool naturally.
